WC-135

Post by JJC » Fri Feb 04, 2022 12:10 am

Evening chaps

Is the WC-135 still at Mildenhall? Last I heard it landed on the 30th Jan.

Just wondering as I’ve got a few days down there next week and would like to catch it if possible.

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere.

Cheers
JJC

I was there on Tuesday for the flypast and couldn’t see it. Heard it has been tucked away in one of the hangars out of public view. 99% sure it’s on base though.

Maybe it’s being hangared while they apply a special paint scheme marking both the aircraft’s imminent retirement as well as the 75th anniversary of the USAF…..

I've just done a drive by and the WC-135 is back out in the open - tail on to the runway with the 2 RC-135s parallel to the runway.

I’m not overly familiar with Mildenhall, where do the RC-135s park? I take it they’re easily viewable from the road.

Heading for Lakenheath tomorrow so will try and get a look at this as well.

Many thanks again

They park right down the Western end of the field on the South side of the runway. John's Field, if open, is the best viewing point.

Snoop 95/JJC - this is where they used to park but it’s been a while since they used the SW corner of the airfield. For some years now they have been parked in the middle of the airfield to the south of the runway on hard stands 23/24/25 (if memory serves me right).

As a result it is tricky to get a good view. With a ladder and binoculars you can usually see bits of the aircraft (often lots of clutter in the foreground) from Folly Road, depending on how they are organised on the stands. You can also see them from the A1101 west of the main gate but they are of course pretty distant and it’s no good for parking.
