QUID 76 IFE (bad one)

Post by das » Tue Jan 12, 2010 9:18 pm

60-0331 QUID 76 has a big problem, currently looking at MORON AB as divert. Was RF F.15's when he told them to break contact immediately, he has lost all right side of a/c it seems. Need a very long runway and good wx. fingers crossed for these guys, no parachutes any more????? :grr:

Sorry no, Ive only heard the last 30 mins or so. It seems they have lost a system resulting in none or little response of the right side of a/c. They were asking for input/advice from other pilots on the ground. Luckily they had 40K? of fuel so have been given some slack. They are deffo headed for Moron now though!
Whose idea was it to do away with chutes for the 135 fleet??

Only speculating but it sounds like it could be a massive hydraulic failure resulting in the starboard flying controls becoming in-effective. The crews will no doubt train for situations like this and hopefully this training will see them return safely to the ground. Bring the old girl down safely fellas.

EDIT: will not declare IFE until approach Moron now on 233.725 and climbing from his FL160 hold

Not sure how the KC135 is set up as regards safety redundancy,ie Ram air turbines etc,but from my point of view and 30+ years of working on Boeings,he's probably lost primary brakes as these are usually fed by hydraulics from the no4 system...if he has lost everything on starboard side it seems like he would have had a supply pipe rupture etc,and as a result possibly has some control loss. Poss chose the Moron divert due to runway condition as most UK airports/airfields still have problems with runway icing etc, otherwise i assume he would probably have chosen nearer. Hope all goes well for them
