Re: F-35 arrival at Marham 5th June 2018
I wonder, are any of the RAF F-35 pilots operating under VMFAT-501 now carrier qualified? If so they could have been landed onto our spanking new aircraft carrier and shipped across from the US. Hey presto, a useful deployment exercise and aircraft "ferry" roled into one thus saving the UK taxpayer a few more quid...

Yes, because it is as simple as that isn't it.
It isn't even 100% fully operational yet.

Marham will have nine F-35s by the end of August, but none are coming by ship, sea trials have to happen first and these aren't expected to start until September at the earliest.

Exactly what I thought, thanks for clearing. Can't please 'em all!
Re: F-35 arrival at Marham 5th June 2018
Is it at all possible that they will be shipped as RoRo cargo via a company such as ACL?

Because that will work...
Re: F-35 arrival at Marham 5th June 2018
We can just tow the buggers on to our ships, no crane necessary...

Because it really is that simple, no need to qualify the type and crews for the carrier, bed down processes, ensure all handling and operational equipment is there and working etc etc etc...TombsRIP wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 11:41 amI wonder, are any of the RAF F-35 pilots operating under VMFAT-501 now carrier qualified? You should get a job in MoD PE, you'd save £Millions and have types into service years quicker.....

Re: F-35 arrival at Marham 5th June 2018
MoD(PE) doesnt exist anymore. It was split years ago into 2 separate organisations, the DLO & DPA. Many more changes later and we have, supposedly a "fit for purpose" & "lean" bean counting organisation wasting more money than ever before....I was trying to inject some satire into the subject of a complete procurement shambles.. F-35B? No, switch to F-35C with EMALS on new carrier; No, back to F-35B etc etc
cheers
