So when are the RAF changing the uniform from blue to black and white stripes and a mask?

They really seem intent on screwing the enthusiast over these days.... £30 for a book!!

Looks to be a very nice book and nice to be able to contribute funds to the heritage centre too, these things cost money after all.

Mark, the book itself is the work of the author and the Marham Aviation Heritage Centre. It is NOT an RAF publication, in fact it is being published using funds currently both from the centre and our own pockets as no sponsor. Any money raised will go towards the building an atrium on our centre to showcase the Tornado for future generations. If you have no interest due to price that is absolutely fine, but complaining about the price without knowing the background or even visiting us in person to see the work we do was a little short sighted.

Your concerns have been duly noted and I hope this response has clarified our position.

Regards.

I suspect in the majority of cases (with the exception of shopping at The Works) you will struggle to find me a book on the street these days that is less than £30.. ?

Thanks for the clarification, I still think it's an expensive product in these financially worrying times regardless of where the profits go. Coming off the back of over priced spotter events I just saw red. To many organisations taking advantage of naive new enthusiasts at the moment. It's really making me think of jacking the hobby in now that it's turning into a financial pee take. Thank God Riat is still value for money...

Good luck with the book and any funds you make from the sale. Volunteers and contributors are the essence of any such concern in striving to achieve their aims. Sometimes it takes more than one's personal interest to leave a legacy for others. I'm sure many will be interested.

Hi all,

We have had the book delivered and it is now in stock in Marham Aviation Heritage Centre if you would like to see and maybe a purchase a copy. We are open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 0900-1600, also the last Saturday of the month same timings.
We will also be open tomorrow 14th March 0900-1200 prior to the disbandment parade. The author Ken Delve will be available for signing and chat so if you fancy a brew pop by.

Cheers.

Good luck with the book - it looks promising, and it'll be added to the (growing!) list of aviation books on my wishlist :)

re: pricing. Having been involved with designing books for a small publisher, £30 for an ~A4-size hardback with that page count - printed in what looks like full-colour - seems entirely reasonable. Printing costs on a book like that aren't cheap, and as I'd expect it will be a relatively limited print run without the backing of a huge publisher, there isn't the opportunity to take advantages of economies of scale etc. to bring the price down to what you might expect to see charged for the latest hardback celebrity biography with a print run in the hundreds of thousands.

I would have thought it would been around £25.00, and yes I spent 6 years at Marham in the RAF!!!
