HISTORY OF 6TH (RCAF) BOMBER GROUP...

Post by Shippo » Thu Jul 21, 2016 9:32 am

No 6 (Royal Canadian Air Force) Bomber Group, or sometimes known as the Canadian Bomber Group, has a unique history in its own right. The bomber group was formed in and operated from the county of Yorkshire and neighbouring territory during the second half of World War Two. From its beginnings,, No 6 Group grew to 14 heavy bomber squadrons and compiled, in the greatest aerial offensive in history, a battle record second to none. Its battle record alone for 1944 was that 6th (RCAF) Bomber Group's Halifax and Lancaster bombers flew 25,353 operational sorties and dropped 86,503 bombs and mines with the lowest loss percentage of four engine aircraft of Bomber Command.

Now retired, Ken Cothliff has a lifelong passion for aviation. Formerly the owner of an aviation supply business in Yorkshire, now a published author and writer, Ken has also taken up the hobby of classic cars acquiring two MG sports cars in the last five years.
Ken has been a long time attendee of various air shows and aviation events since the 1960s, and has a detailed knowledge of the aviation scene around the world. In addition to many aviation Museums and shows in the United Kingdom and Europe, he has been to Canada and the USA, going the AirVenture Show at Oshkosh in 2013.
Now an established pensioner reaching the age of 69, he used to organise the Yorkshire Air Show, near York for a local company, Elvington Events Ltd., as “Event Director” for ten years, and for the last twenty years has also commentated at air displays around the United Kingdom, and in Malta and Canada. Ken's father was a Canadian bomber Flight Engineer who lost his life unfortunately on a raid over France on 5th August 1944, just a week before he was born.
Author and writer Ken Cothliff will give a talk on the HISTORY OF 6TH (RCAF) BOMBER GROUP.
