WHAT LIES BEHIND THE GALLEY CURTAIN? COME AND FIND OUT!

Post by Shippo » Tue Oct 17, 2017 1:33 pm

There are some people who never feel the urge to make a change in their lives or wish to leave the house they were born or settled in. They are content to stay in city or home town they came from, the settee they sit on, and the 360 degrees that immediately surround them. But for a woman called Felicity Sayers, this was different.

At the age of 18 after leaving school, Felicity used her qualifications for a few years in the world of banking but by the time of reaching 21 she wanted to spread her wings to see the world. Her only way to do this was at someone else's expense. So she put her plan into action by becoming a member of staff for an airline. After sending several applications to airline companies such as Dan Air, World Airlines, British Caledonian, she chose her new career in Laker Airways. This airline was founded by Sir Freddie Laker in 1966 and was originally a charter airline flying passengers and cargo worldwide. The rest is history!

After leaving this airline company, she joined British Midland but her objective in seeing the world was interrupted and her flying career came to an end with the birth of her first child and subsequently with two more births following.
As the children grew older, it was time to find suitable employment and Felicity went back into banking for a short period. But this time she had the urge to go to University from which she graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Technical Management, and later using the qualification to gain a management position as Marketing Communications Director EDS Defence, an IT company. The next few years saw her career acquiring board level positions in various global companies in IT, Manufacturing, and Oil and Gas sectors.

Still having the flying bug in her system and having met husband, Captain Andrew Sayers of the Scottish Air Ambulance Service, the urge was still there return to cabin crew duties.

Felicity joined one airline company called Eastern Airways and later on another airline company called BMI Regional.

What was thought was having a quieter life in the Bomber County of Lincolnshire after they left Scotland in 2015, turned out that they both could not get the aviation strain and connection out of their systems, and decided to accept their condition would be for a life time.
Could it be a biological urge or a natural urge? For the urge to fly may be inherited by their children as well!

Felicity has been invited to give the last lecture of the aviation season for 2017, at the Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre, to speak on BEHIND THE GALLEY CURTAIN

It will be held in the WW2 gymnasium, now known as the Peter Scoley Hall, on Wednesday, 25th October, beginning at 7.30pm
