Signs are now out in BOTH lay-bys at the 02 end, both Laybys will be closed for the duration.

Harmston is a no parking village/access only, I know in the past people have used Vicarage lane and walked but if a lot start using it we could see issues here.

Best to park in Waddo or Colby and walk along the road - don't go through the fields at any point.

Closing both of those lay-by’s is a ridiculous decision, because it won’t stop people, which will mean they’ll just park somewhere they shouldn’t instead.

I don’t understand how the base social media/PR actively promotes the exercise, yet closes public parking for the duration?

Yes totally agree, I was hoping the lay-bys were going to be open as I find the 02 end much better than the wave. I was going to park on Vicarage Lane but it’s a bit of a walk with steps!

The farmer is saying the base have requested the laybys be closed, presumably to reduce people going that end.

The base says the farmer requested it to be able to farm the fields and have access to the fields.

Imminent arrival of nonsense around stepladder heights / only going up 2 rungs of a ladder by the fence and enforcement by the self-appointed WAVE-police outside WAVE is now 'eagerly' awaited..

They don't seem to have been to bad in recent times, only policing their own car park, but frowning upon anyone that leaves the car park.

With two of the ladies who seemed to be the self appointed chiefs of police passing away in the past 12 months or so their may be a change?

Either way - the fire training facility have agreed to allow parking on their hardstand again with a donation to charity.

I don't know the situation of the state of the farmer's fields but would he be in a position to open up one of his fields at the 02 end to use as a car park/viewing area and charge a small entry fee? Would anyone be in a position to approach him? He would certainly make a decent amount I should think and it'll keep the vehicles from stopping in inappropriate places. I remember a farmers field at Marham being used for a £1 entry fee during the Tornado Finale.

Have already tried that and was met with 'costs prevent us' - he mentioned CCTV and insurance amongst other things.

Shame really as that massive hard standing left by Anglian water at the end would be perfect!

It's gated and access is via the now closed layby sadly.

I'll be getting on my bike a fair bit it seems!

To hopefully help people, here's a very well scribbled on map to show the allowed route of access.

As said elsewhere, the B1178 has no foot path and is a national speed limit road with a bumpy verge.

Green is the access route, Orange is the end of the runway where it's not advisable to stand and the Red is the no go areas.

That's cool of them. 45 minute walk though. I'll probably stick to the Northern end this year.

Can’t knock them for making an offer, but I don’t think that the lack of flexibility appeals to me. If I want/need to change ends, then how long to wait for a shuttle might be an issue

The bike idea sounds best. Park at/near WAVE and bike it. Having said that, maybe they’re roads for the more confident cyclist.

Mad that the council/RAF/farmers (delete as appropriate) appear to lean toward people putting their safety at risk rather than safely accommodating them.

When they say 'FREE return shuttle transport to the road at the end of 02 will also be included' which road are they talking about? Looking on Google maps, there doesn't seem to be anywhere where the shuttle bus could stop safely as the lay-bys are closed off and I assume the Barn Farm road will be a private road.

I'm guessing they are going to attempt to stop on the 1178 and drop off at the entrance to the laybys, the cones etc are not usually at the edge, they're normally 4/5ft back.
