Can’t knock them for making an offer, but I don’t think that the lack of flexibility appeals to me. If I want/need to change ends, then how long to wait for a shuttle might be an issue

The bike idea sounds best. Park at/near WAVE and bike it. Having said that, maybe they’re roads for the more confident cyclist.

Mad that the council/RAF/farmers (delete as appropriate) appear to lean toward people putting their safety at risk rather than safely accommodating them.
The A15 really isn't for the less confident cyclist, it's pretty grim for a confident one tbh.

Seconded.

Closing the laybys and then dangling the open path along the fenceline is weird and plain pathetic by all stakeholders.

This kind of attitude is what must p-off the "stakeholders" (in what way are they so?) - it certainly does me. None of those three owe spotters any favours - except the council have a duty of care to ALL highway users. The RAF are just doing their job and the farmers have private land with crops/livestock to protect. The fact that they choose to allow access is a privelege not a right. I know it's an over-used cliche but we are fortunate to be able to carry out our hobby in this country. Just be grateful for what we have/had and enjoy what we can.

The whole situation regarding access to the 02 end is quite disturbing, access was always difficult there even in the 70's & 80's when there was an exercise on. I remember driving down a track at the side of a field in the late 70's to see a load of USAF A-7's and getting a rather large rifle pointed at the car by an even larger military-looking bloke covered in camouflage. It was a hire car so I didn't bother using the clutch to engage reverse gear..............................!

Personally I can't wait for the French contingent to arrive, all of those lovely Rafaels, Raphaels, Rapheles, Raphales, Rapheals, Raffles or whatever they're usually called by the uneducated.

This is the part which I don't understand why more people aren't getting it. It's his private land, livestock and crops - which he is dependant upon for his livelihood and family, along with an income. He's within every right to block the lay-by's if it is to ensure he has constant access. I went in 2023 and some people really did not park considerately. But hey... Think of the Spotters

I agree with Mike, I wonder how many folks were there in the early 70s when you were forced to move on sometimes and even as late as 1978/1979 standing on the A15 at both Waddington was frowned on. long before the advent of da WAVE. And even more so at most places around Scampton (particularly the road to the old road down to where BAE moved into the hangars) You would (usually) get a rapid visit from the RAFP

The farmer is happy/willing for us to hold to the 02 end at the edge of his fields, for that we should be grateful for it would be easy and less hassle for him to close it off completely.

If we have to park further away and walk ( albeit carefully) then so be it.

Better to have some access rather than none at all.

Let's leave the 02 parking discussion shall we? It's highly likely nothing will change now.

Bets on how many Saudi Herc moves we get?

I agree with reaper493,time to move on

I heard 15 Herk flights had been booked it
I suspect it will be around 7-8

As a point of reference
How many Herk's went to Waddo and Coningsby the last few times

Could be 15 if it's Saudi and Turkish, possibly Romanian too

It'll be A400s for Turkish and French more than likely, I reckon 25-30 Saudi C-130 trips from start to finish.

Scramble now reporting 11F Rafales will operate from home and 1/4 Gascogne will be at Waddington alongside a single A400.
