Sentinels

Post by Rhubarb » Sat Feb 19, 2022 12:05 am

With the current situation in the Ukraine does anyone think these ex 8 squadron aircraft may be re activated ? Before last xmas at least one of these was parked up over the a15 near the wave. Has anyone seen any activity in line with re-commissioning the Rathone's or have Chile bought them ?

The Sentinels were with 5 Squadron, and have all been sold to the US, and are being prepped to fly over to America, probably on a test 'N' reg. They keep switching them around with at least one in a hangar at any one time, think is 692 that is hangared at present. When parked out side, they are normally tied to 4/5 concrete blocks, so appear to have been stripped of all the tech inside.

The Sentries are from 8 sqd, with three being sold to Chile - only one has been active in the past 5/6 months, ZH103. The E3s are no longer NATO assets, so NATO can't call up on them, plus with Chilean crew already here to begin training,

Not sure whether you originally meant the Sentries or Sentinels, but there's pretty much no chance of them being called back up again.

Does anybody have the current status of the Sentinels. Are there any outside and where can they be seen from.

All 5 were outside last week, ZJ690 is near the WAVE, the other 4 are behind that when you look from the WAVE. You may need to walk up and down the A15 to see them clearly though 🤔

If you want to see them, suggest you do it sooner rather than later.

If you're walking south out of the wave the other four can easily be seen.

2 of the Sentinels have moved over to their original bays (26-29 I think) to the south of the tower.

One of which had no engine covers on, I guess test flying/departure could be immanent.

At least one of them is now civil-registered. ZJ692 is N692BD (since 11 May).
The others all have similar reservations.

Andy, have any more been civil registered? 692 is marked up as N692BD now.

The registrations N690BD, N691BD, N693BD & N694BD have all been reserved by 'SPRINGFIELD AIRCRAFT CHARTER AND SALES INC', which is the same company that 692 has been registered to.

Departure slipped until 1400z but still sat there, just called for a high power ground run.

Understand 692 returned yesterday due to a break sensor issue, meaning they couldn't land at Hawardens runway, but landed fine back at Waddo and stopped very quickly.

Sentinels left at Waddington

Post by fatherfaff » Mon Jun 20, 2022 10:25 am

I popped by on 17 June and noted that ZJ694 had now been moved over next to ZJ691 and ZJ693 (visible from the fenceline at point "E" on the "Thunder & Lightninings" base amp (South of WAVE). ZJ690 is still in the same spot where the Vulcan was, visible from the WAVE. Are all 4 off to the USA?

Merged new post with current topic.

Yes, all will depart, original plan was by the end of May but that didn't happen.

Serials N691BD and N694BD went live on 15th June so will be the next to depart in theory, I think all RAF markings/roundels have been removed as well now.
