It would appear RAF Church Fenton has now been sold, Just hoping it will stay as an airfield of some kind.

I don't know who's bought it, I'm hoping to find out tomorrow. Been some nice rumors what could be happening to it, if one of them is true it should have a good future.

Well lets hope the 72 Sqn pet from 1957 is not still lurking in the sewers
When they had real aircraft, not some half South American thingy

The housing is supposed to be going ahead (although it hasn't been started as yet) - this isn't on the airfield itself and was not part of the recent disposal/sale as far as I know. Yes, the airfield has been sold, I believe that the new owner is an empathetic aviator - time will tell! They've switched on the street lights and hangar lights again which cheered me up after the place had been left in darkness for so long!

I do hope it has some kind of GA flying future. It's almost impossible to get planning permission for a new GA airfield these days, so every field that is lost is blow to the aviation community.

personally cannot see that happening as Sherburn is a mere 4 miles away and Breighton only about 11 miles so cannot see people throwing money into it to keep it fit for aircraft

I CAN see it happening, it has more potential than both Sherburn and Breighton for commercially orientated flying as well as the recreational side. Certainly from the whispers I'm hearing the future looks very interesting and far, far brighter than it has for the last 10 years. Bring it on!

I think it is down to the new owner to make his plans known in due course but it would appear that aviation features significantly (rumour of a fly-in being organised for the new year). Interesting times ahead!

Indeed. I suspect SAC may find CF a more useful long term home perhaps.

The new owner is
http://www.makins.co.uk/ ,they already own an airfield and intend to ensure that Church Fenron has a future in aviation stating "we intend to ensure Chuch Fentons operational days shall remain long and plentiful"

Sound good to me.
Even if I haven't been to Fenton yet. At least it has a rosy future unlike my old local fighter base.... Binbrook

That one could be applied to Elvington, Chris.
Why not be really obscure and call it "Ulleskelf" - which is probably the next nearest place? Or even "Sherburn (North)"?
