Wow - so that's what it was!! Bags of noise and that wonderful smell of jet fuel, alas, low cloud ('Fenton Fog') so despite living 200 yards from the airfield I never even saw them! Saw a Hawk flypast (just the once), a Tucano land and a different Hawk land (both parked up outside hangar 3 where the students were congregating. Waited another half hour, too cold, went to work.
