Re: A possible reprieve for Brough ?
The whole Brough situation has been very badly reported, even in the local press which should know better.
The Technical departments at the site are very busy supporting the world-wide Hawk fleet and continued developments + the Structural test facility working away on a range of Projects. The production departments got a partial reprieve after the Saudi order was announced, retaining some key skilled work and manufacture. The bulk of the major items manufacture and assembly will now be done over the Pennines. All the new order does is ensure the work planned to be carried out continues for a while longer.
In the meantime, the footprint is being reduced. Other users are starting to occupying some of the buildings. The airfield is still open on a PPO basis (a Warton comms aircraft was in recently). The remaining airframes are also being moved acros to Warton.
All in all, from 5,500 employees 30 years ago down to 800 is very hard to swallow.

Re: A possible reprieve for Brough ?
Well. Gosh. There was lunchtime activity at Brough yesterday. Earlier, there had been the sound of an aircraft landing, and then some time later came the sound of the B2 biplane (very distinctive flying by. The previous aircraft (a high-tailed twin-engined thing I honestly can't identify) took off, they joined up and made several passes East to West. After that, the B2 indulged in some very nice, tight, loops. Maybe 20 to 30 minutes of activity altogether, after which life returned to dull and boring once more.
A last and very final fling ? To what purpose, I know not.
