Buccaneer move
The work to move XV168 to Elvington has commenced the last week or so.
Pods have ben removed and wings lifted so far.
Such a shame that "they" couldn't see fit to keep it at its birthplace.

Re: Buccaneer move
Shame, any idea on how much longer it will be before the airfield starts being ripped up? I have a horrible feeling that very little attention will be paid to the history of the site.

Don't know about that - a while I guess.
There's helluva lot of work underway now to make the site suitable for the reduced BAE Systems footprint and external users (one company already is using the site), especially drainage

Re: Buccaneer move
Glad to hear she's found a home. Is the ex-Indonesian Hawk still on display at Brough? Would also make a nice addition to Elvington.

The Hawk still gaurds the gate and please can we keep it - don't deprive us of that as well !PR9 wrote:Glad to hear she's found a home. Is the ex-Indonesian Hawk still on display at Brough? Would also make a nice addition to Elvington.
Re: Buccaneer move
Why the move anyway. Surely it can be accommodated in the new BAE.

Re: Buccaneer move
I agree, they only have to move it 10 yards or so into the new perimeter.
Then again it does need some TLC and there's no commitment to do it

Re: Buccaneer move
My mistake. I thought it was a case of the whole site being developed.teeonefixer wrote:The Hawk still gaurds the gate and please can we keep it - don't deprive us of that as well !PR9 wrote:Glad to hear she's found a home. Re: Buccaneer move
Just looking back through my logs and I first saw XV168 at Honington on 28th February 1975, 38 years ago. So glad it will survive even longer than me, no doubt....

Re: Buccaneer move
still there but 'disguised' as a Hawk 100srs, does not carry a serial. Obviously a composite airframe.PR9 wrote:Glad to hear she's found a home. Is the ex-Indonesian Hawk still on display at Brough? Would also make a nice addition to Elvington.

Re: Buccaneer move
Actually it is a complete single airframe (edit: Mk.53 LL-5313) and has had cosmetic treatment to make it look like a Mk.128 (extended nose, fairings, wingtip sidewinders, various probes & aerials etc). The guys did a great job. It is now outside the BAES perimeter but there are no plans to move it.
