freckleton Air Disaster 23rd,August,1944.

Post by AndrewBarclay » Fri Jul 19, 2024 12:24 pm

The 23rd, August, 2024 is the 80th Anniversary of The Freckleton Air Disaster when an American Consolidated B24 Liberator Bomber on a Test Flight from BAD 2 Base Air Depot Warton during a violent rain storm crashed on Freckleton Village School killing 61 people including 38 children on 23rd August, 1944. I understand from a person connected with the local parish council, that a flypass by aircraft from the USAF at Lakenheath is planned on 23rd August,2024 to Commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Tragedy

There will be a Service of Remembrance at The Freckleton Memorial Gardens on Friday the 23rd, August, I am assuming that the Service may take place at 10.45am which is the time when the Disaster happened 80 years ago.

Weather permitting, there should be a flypast by the USAF around 10:30. Apparently a pair of F15s.
