Spotting of what? Woodford closed in 2011 and became a housing estate. There is a museum devoted to the history of the former factory/airfield.

If you're a heavy machinery enthusiast, you'll be in your element.

If it's tower-cranes you're after Manchester's 'tower-crane city'; counted 69 from the train between Salford Crescent and Ardwick!

The last time I visited that place was to pay my final respects to the condemned :(

The Avro Heritage museum is well worth a visit, but there's nothing else to see. Nice houses by Redrow though, so nice we bought one!

When I visited the museum last month, after departing I drove past a new build pub called The Aviator. Didn't get a chance to check it out, but there could be some aviation related memorabilia displayed within.

The Avro Heritage Museum has recently announced plans for a large extension to mark the centenary!
I think local council plans have been submitted and more info likely to come out over the coming months.

They have the Shackleton in local storage ready to join the museum in the future so hopefully it can be inside if there are expansion plans, the Vulcan too would be better kept indoors.

The BBC article from October is interesting.

Agreed, they need to get the Vulcan inside. They used to do engine runs on the Vulcan every few weeks before Woodford was closed down completely. I only live a few miles down the road and noise always put a smile on the face.
