It's because it was combined CQWI/Joint warrior then. CQWI is a British exercise.

CQWI July 2010 wasn't combined, which was the edition that attracted the Belgian F-16s and USAF F-15Es.

Spent Thursday at Lossie, and I suggest if the weather stays good and you can get up there next week, GO! Brilliant day out and so many photo locations to choose from.

Anyone know what was going on with the RAF Police and some spotters at the 23 end around 15.00.

Not spotters but visitors to the area standing under the fence at 23 - RAF Police were out three times moving folks on.

flying gets going around 12;30 when the two Sentinals get up. Then there are a bunch of jets, around 30 in all and more some days. A mix of Typhoon, Tornado, Hawk, Cobbam things painted blue and a C130 or two. Depends on the scenario they are working on any day. Should be all over by Thursday but maybe Friday a few will be out to play. The second lot are less in number and the third is just a small number. If the weather stays nice you will need sun cream

1000 - Marham Tornados fly morning sortie, Shadow R1 departs from fuel stop if it arrives at 0900
1100 - C130s arrive back from 0900 sortie
1130 - Marham Tornados arrive back
1200 - Sentinel(s) depart for main wave
1230 - 5x Cobham Falcon 20 depart for main wave
1300 - 8x Typhoon, 4x Marham Tornado, 4x 15sqn Tornado, 4x 617sqn Tornado, 2x C-130 depart for main wave
1330 - 4x Hawk T1 depart for main wave
1430-1530 - Main wave returns in no specific order
1600 - One Sentinel R1 (first to taxi usually) and C130s return from main wave
1700 - 3/4x Hawk T1 for second wave, 2/3 Cobham Da20, 2-4x 617sqn Tornado, 2-4x 15sqn depart for second wave
1730 - 6x Typhoon depart for second wave
1800 - Hawk arrive from second sortie
1830 - Sentinel R1, 617sqn GR4s arrive from second sortie
1900 - 15sqn GR4s, Typhoons, Cobham Da20s arrive from second sortie

Doubt they sent one up on Friday? I know they sent a second but a third?

It's usually 4 and when it's not it's normally because of technical problems. Cold-pitting is the sortie time I give if they're not pitting which is roughly a 2015 launch/2145 recovery.

A Typhoon did a performance take-off, I'm not sure what more there is to say?

Nowt to say, they are not supposed to use the reheat when leaving the ground. However a senior pilot can do whatever he likes.
So we saw what they can do, once in two weeks, though I was not around on the day they departed.
That particular departure we saw a Typhoon come down to around the tower with reheat on, sit on its ass and go vertical. On the way up he did a couple of turns and eventually turned into a distant rumble as he got out of my sight. Nowt to tell realy but from next year there may be a few more. It would be nice if the display team were based at Lossie next year, if not they will get their turn in due course.

Thing is that during the whole exercise none of the Typhoons did a performance take off so when Typhoon 1 called up we knew there was one in the offing and it happened - in brilliant sunshine. When 29 Sqn were up doing their 'bombing week' there were a few performance take offs and they all did one when they finally departed. We hoped they would do performance take offs when the CQWI Typhoons left for home but were disappointed - probably because there was a sea haar, but that same haar delayed the last wave and they requested tower to use reheat. The sea haar put paid to any decent pics but the drum effect as they broke through the haar was great to hear. I believe at least a couple of Typhoons did assymetric approaches during their training week and used burner on the climb out.

Best Typhoon departure I've seen was just over a month ago when one did a performance take off, climbed vertical as usual and then proceeded to roll, and roll, and roll until he was a speck in the sky.

@ Mike - FYI for lunch I had a cinnamon and rasin bagel with creamed cheese (garlic & herb), a mug of strong black cafietere coffee (Taylors Hot Lava Java), some Walkers deep ridged cheese and oinion crisps and a Kit Kat
