The Belgians are sending their F-16's to the Middle East for the air campaign against ISIS/ISIL. Denmark are also deploying.

Wouldn't be surprised if the events of the last 48hrs see the whole air element of this exercise reduce drastically :( Same thing happened in 1999, when Lossie was due to hold a NATO air meet, the participants line up was one of the best assembled since the late 70's, but the whole thing got canx a couple of weeks beforehand because Kosovo kicked off.

Lossie has been pretty unlucky with potentially big exercises affecting what would have been great ex's and deployments. I was really looking forward to a very big ex at Lossie in 1990 as USMC Phantoms were strongly rumoured to be taking part. And then Saddam invaded Kuwait and the deployment (and possibly the whole ex) was cancelled. Think Lossie was due to be packed for that one too and all fell apart due to real world events. Lossie was looking to be very busy for this JW and looking not quite so good now. Not often UK bases get very busy with visitors these days, pity as Lossie would have looked great with 4 FJ deployments on base at once, like days of old. Oh well...

I'd certainly hold fire on organising a trip here if you've not already done so and wait
till the last minute.
There is still a German detachment already here since Wednesday personnel wise.
We may have a clearer picture by Monday/Tuesday. ?? :(

Colin what I'm trying to say is there may be nothing to see when you arrive here.
Do you fully understand what is unfolding in the world around you ????

Even if no visitors arrive (though the Swedes and RAF Puma should and the Germans are likely) I cannot wait to come up just to see the 6 Sqn typhoons, XV Tonkas and possibly a seaking :thumb:

To-day (Monday 29th) has seen large amounts of containers arriving by road for the
German deployment here starting with their arrival on Thursday.
I'll try and relay any info as soon as it's seen.
Thankfully it's a wee bit of a relief to see. :)

Tell them about the 5 x sets of Tonka steps rolled out by the German groundcrew today Contrail :D Complete with tag bags et al! Fire extinguishers as well - I suspect something may be due (or not).

A cautionary warning to those intending to visit for JW, this image was taken today from the 23 end path just past the centre line (East) about half way to the bunker, beware Typhoons approach at a significantly lower altitude than Tornado,s, so if you intend to stand directly on the centre line you are putting yourself in grave danger, this jet cleared the fence by about 10 ft or so (no joke he was that low)

I'm sorry Jim but I have to disagree with you - it was LESS than 10 feet  I was in the compound next to the centreline (at the back) and he disappeared completely behind the tall gorse/broom which is about 12 feet high. He had to double flare and just managed to reach the threshold.

A cautionary tale folks - Jim is right, the Typhoons have a flatter, lower approach than the Tornados.
