An RAF Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) group based in Scotland is to temporarily move from Lossiemouth in Moray to Leuchars in Fife.
QRA crews at Lossiemouth and RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire intercept unidentified aircraft approaching UK airspace.
Recent incidents have included Russian military planes near UK airspace.
The Lossiemouth group's move to Fife later this year is to allow for a major revamp of Moray station's runway.

QRA crews had previously operated from Leuchars until 2014 when the group relocated to Lossiemouth. Leuchars has been an army barracks since 2015.
The Typhoon fighter jet crews are expected to return to Moray before the end of this year.
Typhoon training done at Lossiemouth will temporarily move to nearby Kinloss Barracks.

If you missed it, everything is detailed in this Twitter post.
When we can release the specific dates of QRA relocating to Leuchars, and Typhoon training relocating to Kinloss, we will!
Both of these movements are very much temporary while work commences on the intersection of our runways at Lossie.

Posted today on RAF Lossie FB page:
Dates have been announced for 24/7 runway construction at RAF Lossiemouth.
From Monday 10th August, Typhoons will begin their move away from RAF Lossiemouth to Leuchars and Kinloss Barracks.
Quick Reaction Alert (Interceptor) North will be moving to Leuchars in Fife.
Essential Typhoon training will be conducted from Kinloss Barracks in Moray.
From Monday 17th August, the airfield at RAF Lossiemouth will temporarily close. This enables contractors VolkerFitzpatrick to conduct a 24/7 resurfacing operation of the intersection of our runways.
This will enable the swift return of QRA and Typhoon training to RAF Lossiemouth towards the end of this year. It will also mark Poseidon's debut at its new permanent home!
#TeamLossie will continue our mission of #SecuringTheSkies while operating QRA from Leuchars. It's important that our pilots are able to continue their essential operational work-up training, hence why flying will also continue from Kinloss Barracks.

Looks like I will be heading over to Leuchars on the 10th of August then to see then Typhoons return home, even though it's only temporary will still be great to hear the roar from the engines over Leuchars again.

Caveat that the movements are from the 10th!

I noticed a lorry coming Down the Forfar Road in Dundee this afternoon with generators and equipment with 9 SQN badges on them. I assume it was going to Leuchars for the arrival of the Typhoons next week.
Re: QRA moving back from Lossiemouth temporarily.
1 Typhoon arrived at Leuchars a short time ago. Not seen myself so no confirmed ID.
