Yeh, saw that earlier bubz exactly same take off then slow down over st andrews heading south east to the practice area. Does anyone know the callsign that's being adopted for the display sorties? Forgot to bring scanner to work with me!

Is it the same Scotty who displayed the Typhoon in 2009?Pretty sure he was going to move to Leuchers after.?fmansam wrote:Scotty is up now strutting his stuff above the airfield......
One of the best Display season was from him.

Re: No.6 Sqn to provide the Typhoon display team
I stay 20 mins from leuchars, and today around 11am there was a typhoon doing high altitude practice of some sort, above where I live, it's probably the 3rd time in 2 weeks I've seen him, but it's not a display but very tight turns and dives, then climb up high with burners on, great to see and could be nothing to do with the display aircraft, but thought I'd mention it, other thing I've seen recently was a typhoon sitting around 8000ft ( total guesstimate ) then diving down over the old crail airfield ( hms jackdaw ) as if it was straffing it then climb high on full power, and repay multiple times, very impressive to watch

Hi Fifetim,
There hasn't been a practice above the airfield thus far. Leuchars 07 has been perfecting his routine south east of airfield, I have heard various locations, but it seems to be around 50 miles or so south east over the sea. Last week, mon through thurs was quite random regarding take off times, monday was around 3pm, wednesday and thursday were the back of 11 and 10.30 if i remember correctly!!!
I believe the occasion fmansam was talking about there was a 6sqn function that afternoon! I watched it from St Andrews, he was only up a few mins and not a display practice, merely some manoevering and a fast run in from the sea!!
Perhaps anyone in the know could inform us when the practices are likely to commence over the base!!!

Would have thought that with Joint Warrior currently in progress that they wouldn't have had much chance to have any time for Display Practice or has the Display Pilot been given special permission to practise while the exercise is on?

Hi Fifetim,
The last couple weeks various airframes have been utilised, so I would imagine this would still be the case. Both jets yesterday had 29sqn markings but I know that ZK330 BR the airframe used in the 4pm slot has officially joined 6sqn, and this maybe the case for ZJ813 BL, the twin seater used at lunchtime!
Scott has been up this morning just after 8.00l but the cloudbase was not helpful!

Re: No.6 Sqn to provide the Typhoon display team
Fantastic practice commenced @ 15.38l yesterday in perfect clear blue sky. Scott did his new manoevre called "The Bump" 3 times at various angles. Down main display line, then at display centre towards crowd line and also over QRA complex at former 111 HAS area after requests from the Tower and the guys on Q ha ha
Think its going to be very popular

Re: No.6 Sqn to provide the Typhoon display team
Just read a post regarding the BBMF PDA Day and just wondered when and where the Typhoon Display is due for theirs? Meaning will they have it at Leuchars or have to go down to Coningsby?
Re: No.6 Sqn to provide the Typhoon display team
I have noticed there is no performance take off with this display? He seems to take off as normal then come back over the airfield about 5 minutes later. Perhaps he doesn't practice the full routine everytime?

Re: No.6 Sqn to provide the Typhoon display team
I have wondered about this aswell bubz! There doesn't seem to be a full reheat zoom climb either, although this may be added to the display?
And its still early days and not down to the low level practices yet!

I guess if he is still not down to the base height for prctice then he can't really do that bit of the Diplay.balamorybuzzed wrote:I have wondered about this aswell bubz! There doesn't seem to be a full reheat zoom climb either, although this may be added to the display?

Leuchars 07 currently up and holding while Leuchars 18 and venom flight inbound. Cloudbase quite low though. Not having much luck with the clag off the sea this week. Not sure if the practice will be going ahead
Michael
Edit: Practice did not go ahead, Leuchars 07 just landed

2 practices on friday, 1st @ 8am, 2nd using ZK319 EW at 12.50pm.
Looking like display height now, very impressive at lunchtime, warmed us up at the fence in baltic weather

1st practice of the week @ 8.45l, sparkling clear blue sky!! Watched Scott from work in St Andrews, great sight and sound
Through the binocs, it looked suspiciously like ZK379 EX
And after weeks of the callsign being Leuchars 07, lo and behold it was Leuchars 06 this morning!
