Nuisance Calls

Post by mirage41 » Tue Jun 23, 2020 9:23 pm

Over recent months the number of calls had fallen to zero. Now, as perhaps we move forward, I have noted an increase in the number of calls - matey from Mumbai, prerecorded from Amazon and BT, local double glazing who can't comprehend that our windows are of German make and remain perfect.

Nevertheless, this mornings call went through the name and address formalities - our road uses Lake Ullswater - and the caller had some difficulty with this address.

I politely asked if the caller had done geography in his schooling, which generated a tirade of f'ing and blinding before he hung up.

Shall have to fire up the answer phone and the old "guten tag -----------"

String them along and when they think they have got you, thank them very much for chatting to you as you haven't had any one to talk to while you self isolated.

I feel quite left out, I've never had one! :( I am ex-directory and my number is blocked on outgoing calls. I used to get calls for Fedex as their old number was close to mine. but that's just people with fat fingers. If a business requires a number I always give my mobile one as cold callers don't seem to call mobiles.

The Amazon prime scam asks you to press 1 to cancel your membership- obviously don't press one as you will start paying for the call according to my neighbour

I just chat gibberish to them as long as possible whilst I'm working - to ensure that as much possible of their time is wasted.

Or in the event that they claim to be calling from my ISP and that my line is to be disconnected I tell them that its "great news as my ISP are a total bag of ****" at which point they are lost for what to say!

Must confess this is not an issue for me as being incredibly anti-social I never answer incoming calls. I see it that If it’s important they can just leave a message on my voicemail, and nuisance callers never do. :thumb:

If it's Unavailable, Withheld or International on the caller display, on the rare occasion when I do pick up the phone I just say "hello" now and again, pretending I can't hear anyone on the other end of the line. Calls never usually last long!

Had a very weird call today - an SMS text-to-voice message consisting of a "lady" reciting a string of randomly-chosen (or so it seemed)) alphabet letters, that went on for about 30 seconds, until I cut the call off!

I suspect it was a connection to a premium-rate phone number - hope I'm not now in line for a BIG bill from Virginmedia!!

Any thoughts/explanations??

Also, there's been a recent increase in spam emails to one of my (several!) email addresses
