BRNC-Dartmouth

🇬🇧

60 years ago today would have been the second full day as a recruit in the Royal Navy.
On the Monday I was one of 30+ who mustered outside the railway building next to the river Dart and “doubled” up the hill to halt, totally knackered, on the quarterdeck overlooking the parade ground.

A life changing experience which is of little or no interest to anyone but I feel better regardless   ;)

Churchill had died the previous week and the Gunnery Officer had organised a lottery to gather funds for a tribute to the Man’s memory.
I won £14.7.6d which amounted to a month’s pay.

What significant event happened during your first week in the Mob?

Thank you both for your service. I can only claim Air Training Corps service as cadet and W/O.

Similar to NighthawkeI Thank you for your service.Iwas only a cadet reaching Sergeant.Did however do a stint with the Auxilliary Coastguards. On first meeting with CO was given papers to sign, oath to swear and quick run down on what was needed.Closely followed by "someone will be here to relieve you at 06:00" and the door shutting.Approx 20 minutes service and I was doing a Bad Weather Watch nightshift on my own ,in a spartan coastguard lookout.12 hour shift.Being fair to him after I finished my Apprenticeship and was waiting till Winter to look for a job I had loads of shifts covering full time shifts.Sunbathing on the balcony of the look out and getting paid for it.

Happy days
