Car insurance renewal.

Post by raptor9 » Sat Jan 25, 2025 1:02 pm

To my great surprise, with no change in requirements, my car insurance has dropped by £10, following a massive increase last year!. Perhaps the companies are getting the message that they are not being fair to their customers??.

Mine was similar last September- down by around £30 after the previous year's c.50% hike. I'm a senior citizen customer that they like to punish as we get older.

Similar. Massive hike last year. 12% hike this year.
Rang them and negotiated down to last years premium without any alteration to policy conditions. Went to comparison site and also a broker beforehand and was quoted very high....80% hike. Strangely, whilst talking to the current provider I asked if removing the (3) named drivers would make a difference......it did......a 50% increase !!! Can't work it out myself.

never ever auto renew always use a comparison site (confused) and you can choose a reward as well always renew 21days before it's due and you will find it will be a lot cheaper as you are classed as new business and get a big discount and if auto renewed you get hammered next year mine went up £472, and the comparison site will notify you the following year with the best prices.

Well, I auto-renewed and my insurance went down this year, despite my age going up!! [82] Tried comparison sights last year, and found no joy in getting it cheaper, indeed several were more expensive, and LV don't insure over eighty year olds. Their loss!!!. :)

Renewal time again and after last year’s disgraceful 72% hike just for the sake of it,I was dreading it. Glad to say that it’s came back down to what it was in 2023, at £550. So what happened last year?

Edit: Sorry should’ve been clearer, the £550 price is with a different insurer Admiral, last years rip off was with Lloyds. Got Lloyds auto renewal price today which is £796, which although around about £90 cheaper than current year, is still £240 dearer than Admiral.

I think that the Car Insurance companies got hammered by the public and the Press about large increases last year and reigned back on their supposed greed this time.

Just renewed ours with RAC: initial quote was £464.28 (£495.38 last year)

Queried that and asked if that was the best they could do, and they came back with a quote for £411.16

Shouldn’t have to ask, but if you don’t :grr:

if you cancel Auto renew and as soon as you get it start to look on Martin Lewis MSE site or confused.com and you should get it a lot cheaper because the will class you as new business, and don't be surprised if your current one comes up and quotes you cheaper
never wait until the last Minuit.

Never wait till the week before your insurance runs out to start shopping around, they see you as desperate and will take advantage. Always start to look 4 weeks and you’ll find prices are a fair bit cheaper.

That's a nice surprise! It's good to see some positive changes, especially after a big hike last year. Hopefully, it's a sign that insurance companies are starting to be a bit more fair with their pricing.

Well, looked at the quote line by line before renewing, they've upped my voluntary excess from £250 to £500, and the compulsory excess from £500 to £1k, so not such a good deal after all.
