Out of interest, I have an 86 year old gentleman living two doors away from, who, despite not being a modern F.1 fan, was taken as a lad to see the first ever Formula One World Championship race at Silverstone in 1950. He still remembers who won, Froilan Gnonzales' I told him. No he said it was' Guiseppe Farina.' Cool!. From the depths from the depths of my limited knowledge, I think Farina lost his life in a road accident in a Lotus Cortina.

Wow, excellent memory from the gentleman, your memory not too shabby either raptor9..
"On his way to the 1966 French Grand Prix, Farina lost control of his Lotus Cortina in the Savoy Alps, near Aiguebelle, hit a telegraph pole and was killed instantly. He had been on his way to both watch the race and to take part in filming as the adviser and driving double of the French actor Yves Montand, who played an ex-World Champion in the film Grand Prix"
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Indeed, whilst Williams may not be my favourite team, you can't help but admire and respect what they achieved under him. And his name is one of very few that will live on with the sport for many years to come.

Sad, but a great life given some serious health problems of course. Perhaps it's not well known that he was, I believe, the longest surviving quadraplegic in history. Some great memories over the years, long before his F.1 history. Frequently referred to as 'W...er Williams' in his early days. Used to do deals in a public 'phone box. Another of the 'old school' characters gone. Sympathy to Clare, Andrew and family. Aaagh, nostalgia in spades.

Big crash for Leclerc at Jeddah. P2 abandoned as a result. Hamilton fastest.

Yes, that was a very quick stop!!!. Crashes with sudden stops are the dangerous ones Glad barrier and other safety technology has got on top of this point. Great circuit, but a potential for large accidents I fear, with a lack of run-off on some very fast corners. Fingers crossed for the week-end!!.

Phew! That was a tense quali

Sir Lewis on pole with Bottas after Max dropped it.

A 200mph street circuit. Crazy? Get ready for a race of yellows.

All that desert and empty land plus oil money and they build a street circuit!

Love the way Hamilton respects Valterri and 'bigs' him up - it's quite moving really.

This place is viscous, all 3 F2 races have been carnage. Could easily get a championship decider for the wrong reasons today. Bring it on 😉

So, anyone else expecting Max to take himself out with Lewis next weekend to take title on countbacks ?

Surely not!

That race was exhausting to listen to and one of the most bizarre.

They should summon the circuit designer to see the stewards.

Circuit has been built since April, FIA should tell them to fix it before they have another race there next year.

When I watched the first GP2 practice on Friday, I thought this was a very, very dangerous track. It is simply too fast to be a street circuit, with hardly any run-off areas, and the prospects of a car bouncing off the barriers into the path of others will, eventually, result in something resembling an air crash [thought of Anton Hubert at Spa !].Max Verstappen must soon realise that throwing the car at a corner and hoping it will not take out you or your opponent is not the way to endear yourself to anyone, and no way to win a World Championship, even if it results in that!. Very, very immature performance from him today, although I accept that the collision with Lewis on the straight was a misunderstanding, possibly by both. His attitude to everything else gives one the impression that everything he does is o.k. even if the relevant authorities deem him to be in the wrong, and the podium presentation was as disrespectful to his peers as it was possible to be. Petulant little brat who needs to grow up!!.

😷
 I shot myself in the foot by recording and just now watching highlights of the race. What a waste of money and resources the racing has become.
F1 is now a total Shambles. Circuits are only wide enough for pushbike racing, drivers lack common sense (there are exceptions)

I know that I do not have to watch or indeed read posts on FC but I was curious to see how much Jeddah had changed since the mid ‘80s and motor racing used to be fun to watch.
It is also raining so hedges will have to wait for their final trim.
👐🏼🤡🛰 Stay safe, avoid the promenade at weekends

I suppose it keeps people in employment

🎄 🌲 🎄 season’s greetings to everyone 🚁🛩✈️🛫🚀🛬🛸
