I'd rather have a reasonably honest man like Biden than that self-opinionated narcissistic, mentally unhinged woman-hater, liar and all round obnoxious excuse of a man named D.R. Trump any day!!. [you may have gathered that I don't like him].

Yep, but at least get his name right.. Donald John Trump (D.J. Trump).
Re: Afghanistan - mission accomplished?
Not a surprise, but I read yesterday that former Afghan President Ghani, fled the country with a reported $169m in cash! According to reports, this money would have funded the Afghan military for several months! No wonder then that morale was non existent amongst the army etc!
Re: Afghanistan - mission accomplished?
Here are two books that might help to understand why the area known as Afghanistan is a long way from becoming a nation state as we in the UK define one.
The UK seems to be moving into smaller, regional administrations, Afghanistan is still at that stage of development. It is very much as is the area known as Yemen. Many similarities between the two.
So, take a gander if you will

Re: Afghanistan - mission accomplished?
Foreign office advice to UK passport holders in Afghanistan is to now move away from Kabul airport due a suspected terrorist threat by the local IS
I thought people were saying that IS didn't operate in Afghanistan?
Only 6 days to Biden's 31 August deadline - most of that will be to evacuate American military.
Talk about leaving with your tail between your legs.

Re: Afghanistan - mission accomplished?
That is the only way anyone who tries to occupy it leaves Afghanistan, past present and future.
Cheers

News reports of an explosion carried out apparently by a suicide bomber outside Kabul airport. Reports of 13 killed. A black day.

Especially bad given it appears these attacks (explosions and small arms fire were reported at multiple sites) today were the work of ISIS-K, not the Taliban who's an enemy of ISIS-K as is ISIL. A 'civil war' between Jihadists is the last thing we need right now.

Re: Afghanistan - mission accomplished?
What a tragedy
According to the above BBC news report: Ninety people have been killed - mostly Afghan civilians and 13 US military personnel
'US President Joe Biden has promised to hunt down the perpetrators, jihadist group IS-K' - Presumably by drone attacks as Biden is pulling out of Afghanistan.
It's going to be very difficult to secure the airport runway and at the same time evacuate the last foreign troops.

Re: Afghanistan - mission accomplished?
See new video news of Taliban or ISIS now marching down the streets with american body armour and carrying american guns, the usa have give them night vision thousands of armoured vehicles and artillery and an airforce. 40 Blackhawk helicopter's.the amount of stuff they now have is unreal.
Re: Afghanistan - mission accomplished?
Couldn't agree more. If only those in power (who are planning such things) would look at their history books....
Some wars you cannot win.
Terribly sad for all who have been involved. I really feel for the families of those who have been seriously wounded or have sadly been lost. I can only imagine what they are feeling about it..

Re: Afghanistan - mission accomplished?
The anger some Americans currently have is about how the US political leadership decided to leave, not whether it should have left or even whether it should have been there in the first place. There's clearly hidden politics happening, the Taliban is providing security for the US outside of HKIA for example, but there's also been some questionable decisions made as well, why the US didn't want to send in additional troops so it could both defend its embassy and operate the much more suitable Bagram Air Base for evacuations.
Re: Afghanistan - mission accomplished?
They left Bagram a few months ago overnight IIRC, when Afghanistan was very much still in Government hands, and the situation was 'going home', not 'evacuating'. Whereas Kabul has always had a US presence AFAIR.

According to the Times quoting a Soldier from the Taliban Fateh unit
" Not a Single Foreign soldier left in Afghanistan"
According to the paper the last C-17 Moose 85 left at 23:59 local on Monday
A complete victory for the insurgent force
