Australia 150 ahead but Root has just taken a wicket 306-7

Aussie batting does not sound that great so some hope for the rest of the series?

Root bowling - sounds like the pace attack is knackered - should have selected James Anderson

If you think the Australian batting does not sound that good, then you must think the English batting is absolutely atrocious, which it was. Close of play 343-7 yet another innings defeat looming on the horizon. :grr:

That was just the standard England first match of the series collapse. I admit we could do with a Cook or a Trott.

Where are all the young New Zealand and South African born English men??

This just shows that central contracts need to be scrapped and selection is based on performance during the domestic County championship. If you don't play for your county you don't get selected for international series.

Damn missed it - keep forgetting to set an early alarm

Super effort from England - bit of pressure on Australia if we can get close to a 170-200 lead

You can watch brief highlights via BBC website. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/cricket/59603649

Root and Malan looked pretty good once they got in. If they can bat until lunchtime at least it will be looking even more promising.

Why is anyone surprised, this carnage has been forecast for a long while.
