After the replay that was 50 50, even Stroll didn't blame Latifi and said he wasn't moving out the way for another car. Like that grid, best I could have hoped for Merc, McLaren looking better. Sainz should make up ground. Hopefully we get a race with the track changes, Australia has been a borefest in recent times.

Its more that its yet another smash for him. He's had more accidents than boy wonder has had race wins of late. And in a time where every cent counts, he's costing Williams finances that are much needed in car development. They'd be better off bringing in a driver with actual talent than the sponsors un-lucktifi carries.

But yea, could be a good race tomorrow. Some out of place grid positions and it'll be interesting too see how McLaren/Mercedes end up come the end of play. And more so if Sainz can get through them. Let's just hope the pole sitters run of luck in the last few Aussie GP's doesn't continue!

Also, they were quick to remove one of the DRS sectors after red bull complained..

Karma + 1. Enjoyable race to watch, but then I always enjoy it when Horner's head is in his hands!!. Shame Lewis lost third place with the Safety Car pit stop, thereby gifting it to Russell. Better for Mercedes, but a long long way to catch up yet!!.

I agree, hopefully Mercedes will improve when back in Europe with a few upgrades, Mclaren looked pretty good too..Ferrari looking very strong though.

Any day that doesn't go red bulls way is a good day.

Good to see McLaren back up again indeed, though performance deficiencies like that and that of Haas is precisely the reason they can't be serious contenders for championships.

Cracking job from Albon too, it's a shame he had to pit in the end to comply with the rules, that would have been an impressive feat.

Gotta feel for Sainz, he needs some luck and to pull something out of the hat or he'll be a no.2 driver before too long. And for Vettel, whilst it's hard to know exactly how covid has affected him, he certainly shouldn't have been in Oz IMO.

As for the track, it looks mighty fast. Those changes are certainly a step in the right direction. But it's still Albert Park. And whoever came up with the idea to remove the DRS section should be removed from the racing community.

Edit, To add, it's a shame the cost cap clearly isn't working. It should have been enabled the little teams like Williams, Haas and Sauber/Alfa to have a chance to get to the front. When all it has done is changed
which of the big 3 is the fastest, and if rumours are to be believed that Mercedes can sort the car out(which currently i dont believe), it may well fail completely.

I agree. To get that pig of a car up to 10th takes a special talent. Should have been Driver of the Day in my opinion (not that my opinion counts for much  ).

I think we're back to RB again. They were complaining about the DRS zone on Friday and wanted it changed. What RB want, RB gets.

Perfect, more than any other team they've had a clear number one and he's doing a great job of securing his position as #2, saves any arguments.

I have a notion that, if Mercedes continues all season to be a dog, that, contracts or no contracts, Lewis may become a Ferrari driver next season [gets his 8th Championship, which in my opinion he already has] and, after winning the Championship, retires. Just musing............. Have a good week-end guys.

The perfect no.2 driver always finishes directly behind the no.1 driver, unless said no.1 is unable to take thr maximum result. Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of Sainz, I'd rather it was him than Lec leading the way, but the first few races for him have been less than acceptable.

If he leaves Mercedes, that'll be his immediate F1 future done for. Ferrari aren't going to want the complication of having him onside, and red bull aren't going to give him a drivers seat. McLaren may take him back, but I think Lando will give him a nasty shock. That's of course, assuming he wants to stay in F1, which as it appears to me, is getting less likely as each race weekend passes.

Yet another demonstration on why sprint races don't work...

To add,
Not as bad as it could have been. But it's clear that sprint races are too short, especially when an SC is deployed and valuable racing laps are thrown away.

Also DRS appears too be too powerful as it currently is, having clearly decided the results. Though the 'train' further down would most likely have been worse without it.

To summarise, Imola is clearly not the best circuit if racing is what you want to see.

I do wonder why some folks bother watching F1 when all they do is moan about it afterwards, don't like it, don't watch it.

TBF, the majority of RIAT moaners are mostly unjustified, as DBH does go for and deliver items for the fans. Their expectations are too unrealistic in multiple ways.
F1 however goes for the $$$, whilst pretending its doing it for the fans. Why chose Imola when Portimao, Mugello or even Sepang(which all teams had to fly over to get back to Europe from Oz), would be much better for RACING. Which F1 sells itself as the pinnacle of.
Remember, it also works if you don't like what's being written, you don't have to read it ;)

I will add, I got up at 4 to watch the Aussie GP, having only being able to get to bed at 2, to sit through the the entire race and see mad max cop out with a few laps to go. And that is why it's worth watching for me.

I don't have Sky, however I can usually live stream the races which is pretty cool, and thankfully saves me from the annoying t--t Steve Jones on C4..
