Norton PC protection

Post by Condor68 » Mon Mar 28, 2022 9:10 pm

Anyone else having problems with Norton protection. Was instructed by BT web site to install it as it was now the preferred anti virus set up.If I type in the site I want I am lucky if its on the first page there is so much C**P displayed first. Entered Band Q com and got dozens of B AND B`S in Arbroath .retried it and the first option that came up was BB Compost .Have not actually seen the Band Q.com come up yet.Suspect BT adopted it as they got it cheap.

From my past experience Norton is probably one of the worst PC protections there is out there.

Could not agree more, get rid of it,they are using contractors to do the dirty work,if you buy the scatch card and your downloading it on your computer, you get a phone call, asking you to pay more, top end of the market, quite how they get your mobil number is a another question.

How can any of you be certain of the protection offered by any application that you have recommended?

Dont know C24 like anything else suppose you just have to trust the claims they make.If you have had no probs is it working or is it that you have not been targeted?Norton certainly caused me problems.

I've used Malwarebytes for about the last 10 years, so much better than Norton and doesn't slow down your PC/laptop like Norton does - it's around £18 a year and I think that covers up to 3 machines.

It was a great day for me when I kicked Norton into touch!
This season, I'll be mostly wearing........A THONG!

Everyone has there own opinion on antivirus. I pay for Norton and have used it over the last 14 years. Never had a problem and it does its job well.

Lucky for you but so far in this very small straw poll you're in a singular minority. I've only ever heard complaints from users never praise. My personal experience was many years ago and it didn't last for long on my system.

As I thought, nobody has checked one against another so as noted above it is down to experience of a product in use and whether or not a virus has bypassed the app in use.
I’ve used Norton products since ‘91 with McAfee prior and Kaspersky during the ‘00s on various laptops. No recall of what was used on PCs 1984 onwards.

Having worked in IT for 6+ years, and with an MSP, the most amount of issues related to AntiVirus protection was with Norton and McAfee. Taking up a lot of memory and processor when running a simple scan, slowing the machine down whilst doing a "Background" scan. All the bloatware it comes with (the average user just tends to click next all the way through installation installing rubbish) and so many false reports of problems.

These days, Windows Defender that comes on machines (Win 10, 11 etc) is more than enough for the average user, offers enough protection, easy to use. And if you read the comments it gives you, it helps to show what is wrong, and what is fine :)

Our business now uses Sophos (which can come with it's on setup headaches) but is good for an enterprise. Second vote on MalwareBytes too.
