The trailers look great, looking forward to seeing it, I know Mr Cruise isnt everyone's cup of tea, but over the years I think he's become a decent actor and even at 60 years old soon, he's still pretty cool 😊

im a HUGE top gun fan..its always been my favourite movie.
i cant wait for maverick to finally hit the cinemas after countless delays but, as great as it will undoubtedly be, it cant ever have the same appeal as the original. nobody will be talking about topgun maverick in ten years time the way they did about the original. due to internet streaming, Netflix etc, movies dont have that same appeal imo. not many people go to the cinema these days due to streaming.
in the 80s, people couldnt wait to go see things like topgun, dirty dancing, feris bulers day off, breakfast club etc etc...you dont get that anymore and thats why maverick sadly will always be just another good film, it wont become a clasic....imo

I disagree. Take away the aircraft and Top Gun is just another extremely cheesy 80's movie. I've only watched it all the way through once, and that was enough!

As for the other films you listed, well can't say I was queing outside the cinema to watch those 'classics' either!

my point was not weather everyone agrees with my movie choice, it was stating movies back then became iconic..i doubt the new topgun movie will due to the way we all watch movies these days. :thumb:

Hate to disappoint you but the cinema attendance numbers in the UK for 1986 (the year Top Gun came out) were 75.5million.
The figures for 2019 (the last full year before Covid) were 176.1million.
So by a rough estimate, over twice as many people are going to see movies now than when your classics were "pulling in the audience numbers"
Cheers

Ferris Bueller's Day Off apparently a 1986 US teens comedy/romance. Googled out of curiosity and to get the correct title. :D

I know its a bit like marmite but I saw this film at the pictures with 3 of my mates at least 8 times possibly more.

The flying is stunning and even though the story is a bit cheesy it is quite funny, especially when you are in a cinema full of people who know all the lines and all join in with the inevitable one liners.

Lets see how good the next one is

The people who dislike 80s films are ancient!! 😅😅 I jest . What about Iron Eagle!!?? 18 year old Cessna pilot who flies an F16 into combat with only some sim training and a sortie to the local bombing range but ends up navigating to the Middle East , makes his first AAR without any error , takes out a few Cobras , FUBARs an airfield and many other targets , then flies a missing man formation !!! Kids at 18 around here pass their driving test first time then a couple of weeks later trash their Car !! God help us 😅😅😹😹

Hi Gareth :P

Yes, I’ve noticed you have quite a few would-be Schumachers on your roads when we visit SWMBO’s relatives in Usk

They think the A449 is the main straight at Brands Hatch :Wow:

I've heard that a lot of the flying sequences are CGI - if that is true I'm not sure I'll bother watching it. Buti it true?

Overall that might be correct but the UK population is some 20% bigger now than in 1986.
