Long time Puzzle

Post by Condor68 » Fri Jul 29, 2022 11:22 pm

I have always wondered since it started about the seventies why English people call the ground the floor and yet if they fall in a house they say they hit the ground ?Surely floorboards are inside and Groundhogs live outside .It cant be an education thing because all the celebrities and newshounds do it or is it just the langwichwhatisspoak by the guys that do the autocues ?Its not a lokal thing. The other one that gets me is the over use of the word like. Some one says like we did this or like we did that. Just say what then they ask like what? The use of SO is also a pain for me as it shows you are too thick to reply and need time the soo with the big intake means you are stuck and the cows mate delivers.I can honestly say I have not seen any of this sites Shelbritys doing it. Its your language guard it or the Jocks will pozie it. GIC

Cheers

Keith

I agree on the So thing. It also sounds so patronising when a so called expert begins an explanation with So .....

Deck is another misused word especially on FC - the aircraft is on the deck implies an upper runway

I have a few drams and fell over and hit the deck; maybe if you are on a boat?

Deck? Most marine vessels are fitted with them.

My favourites are the ‘Tilty head ‘ people. They have an intense look on their face when engaging in a serious conversation and their head canted to one side.
Remember; learn by rote. ;-)

Well, I’m fed up to the back teeth with people on aviation fora who continue to use ‘taxi’ instead of ‘taxy’ :Wow: :grr: :grr: :grr: :grr:

Politicians who start answering a question with .....'Look.....' as if they're explaining something to an idiot, insulting.
In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.

Absolutely, very rude, also the folks who use like, like, like every other word, wtf is that about..
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

We need a Latin scholar as they will be different classes of verb - probably.

Scottish people mostly from the Central Belt, usually male and with a 'slight' lack of education, who use the word 'but' as if it's a comma when speaking.
Kris Boyd, who is a pundit on Sky TV's 'Soccer Saturday' is a prime example of this, why they have to pay huge sums of money to employ someone like that is beyond me. :S

I must admit I often get stuck with that one especially as taxi is the first word suggested by my mobile if I type in tax

A common word on FC is Apparently but without saying why. The AK F-22A leave on Saturday apparently instead of the F-22A leave on Saturday apparently according to the man with the dog.

Or

Prince William and Kate were not happy the other day, they couldn't find the letter opener. Apparently he had the day off

SOooo, 😆 the Oxford and Cambs English dictionaries are the authority here (apparently), both quote “the taxiing of an aircraft” 😗 Yet we know what Taxi or Taxy means in our context 😉 OMG! Why did I reply 🤣🤦‍♂️
