Why?????
Re: Why?????
No doubt if they find him he’ll get a slap on the wrist and maybe even told he’s a naughty boy.
Cases like this need serious punishment and when it’s 100% certain who did it then the death penalty, there we go I said it.

Re: Why?????
Totally agree podge, but before putting him down, hand him over to the family for an hour 🥷
Re: Why?????
Still there’ll be the ‘bl@@ding hearts’ who’ll moan about police stop & search

Re: Why?????
Looks like the police have got their man in custody. Bringing back the death penalty would in my opinion be a retrograde step; at least if someone is given a custodial sentence they can appeal and prove their innocence, if that turns out to be the case.
Sadly whilst a condemned person could appeal once that had been rejected their life was over. It has been proven that there have been cases of wrongful conviction, but that is not of much use to the individual and families after the final event.

Re: Why?????
Totally agree with PLMC on this. I have never seen the death penalty as punishment, or indeed deterrent, and, of course, as PLMC says, it could be a wrongful conviction. I wish we had the American system here, where life means life [I know it sometimes does here, but not often enough]. Spending the rest of your years, which may be many, at risk of assault, never having a girlfriend, holiday, or freedom of any kind.....THAT is punishment. Oh, after leaving them with the family for an hour or two every month, amputating the odd finger, toe etc., I know that we can't do that, but it was just a thought.

Re: Why?????
I also agree, the death penalty is no deterrent, as if it was the USA would have one of the lowest murder rates in the World. However, I do think it’s a statement from a civilisation that is allowed to say, no, you don’t deserve to live in our world. We have boundaries, and people who think that behaviour is acceptable, should be removed from the planet, pure and simple.
Re: Why?????
Slightly off topic from the original post but to do with the death penalty.
I believe there is one offence that can still be given the death sentence and that is treason. It will be interesting to see what happens to the individual who has just been charged with this offence. He entered the grounds of, I think it was Buckingham Palace, armed with a bow and arrow and he has stated his goal was to kill HMQ. That would constitute high treason with the potential end result.

Re: Why?????
Treason - According to Google - Although originally punishable by death, following the passing of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 the penalty would now be life imprisonment.
I didn't bother following the link for an in depth understanding
Although your argument for wrongful convictions still stands: it is quite easy for the State to fit you up although I wouldn't expect the United Kingdom to do that to anyone
