Just had what I reckon is a scam by text.It says "Long time no see,I miss you so much.I have changed my mobile phone number. It gives a phone number as a Header.I would have thought anyone missing me after a long time might just have put their name on it.

Re: Scam .
I had a similar text apparently from my daughter, "Dad, this is my new phone number", so I contacted her straight away and of course it wasn't from her, blocked and deleted..scammers everywhere
If you can keep your head whilst all around are losing theirs, you have probably completely misread the situation!!

Re: Scam .
Sadly, with AI getting better, these scams are going to be more difficult to stop. If you get a chance, look up Gary Schildhorn on YouTube, where he testifies how he nearly fell for a con where AI was used to replicate his son’s voice on the phone. This is early AI tech, so can you imagine what’s going to happening in 5 years? I have sorted a couple of questions with my wife, from our early years where it certainly wouldn’t be online, say first holiday etc, and we have said if either phones and says something dramatic, and asks for money, will will ask the questions, which if AI, it shouldn’t know the answer.
Re: Scam .
Although AI is good, it doesn't hold up well to questioning.
If your asked for info or, as mentioned above, AI tried to replicate a voice. Ask it a question. For example, 'whats my date of birth' 'whats your mothers name' or 'give me your middle name's. Anything it may not know.
You run the risk of an awkward situation if the call is real, but you can usually tell as the pauses are too long and their is quite some time before they respond (because the ai needs to generate it).
Bit of a rant, hope it helps

Just been on my mates phone… call comes in from Bradford - he said “I’ll just ignore it” but I said let me connect and listen … AI call technology - frightening when they record a voice speaking North East Scottish “doric” - its a sair fecht for a half loaf.
