Things people dont know behind parades/ceremonies

Post by Condor68 » Sat Feb 22, 2025 10:06 pm

Just thinking with celebrations/remembrance coming up soon does anyone think of the effort made by people to be there.Sounds simple but Dr Who can only go so far.In my experience I was forced to work on a Saturday about 15 years ago ,had to threaten boss with legal action to make it a half day..Either way ended up on Dual Carriageway to Aberdeen rain and wind making visibilty cant say zero but not far off it.I was in an openreach Transit ,cosy water in drinks holder when I looked in the mirror and saw what I thought was reflections of car lights distorted by dirt on the mirrors.I then realised it was Bikers and changed thoughts to what kind of idiot would choose to bike in this.As they passed me I saw the furled flags they were part of the Royal British Legion Bikers on their way to a Services day.Later that year I met a few of them at our annual ceremony and when I stupidly asked about the road risks I got told we said we would be there and we were.I had come across some money and was going to shove it all in their Kitty But after nearly coming to blows we settled for £50 and another if we met again. These guys are great some are badly injured like a lot of the people who sit behind the scenes and quietly get it done or the ones who simply put the the miles in simply being there.Personally I thank everyone off them.

Keith
