Falklands Memorial

Post by Condor68 » Sun Jun 08, 2025 8:00 pm

In the section for memorials I have entered a few but today after an invitation last week I was honoured to attend a remembrance service for those Marines of 45 Commando who died in the Falklands war .It was on Barry/Buddon ranges and I have to say when I remember the site from almost 30 years ago and regular visits I was amazed at how work carried out by the local RMA volunteers has transformed it without losing the tranquility. The service was about 40 mins and had a delivery by CSM? who was with with the Party who defended Port Stanley until ordered to surrender.A Roll of Honour was called followed by laying of wreathes and Roses by a Marine or Marine cadet at each of the plaques to the fallen. Its the first time I have been at one (apperently the RMA only took over last year)but I was impressed by the total silence through out except for commands and the amount of guys who had been there and travelled to Barry. On a very small scale I can remember the night they left.4 of them rented a house in Carnoustie and as a part time taxi driver at the time knew they might go .They told our office every time they moved from a pub and eventually I did have to go and find them and take them to Condor. It was an eerie feeling knowing where their onward journey was going.

There were about a hundred people there and they did their Comrades and the Fallen proud'.

Quiet low key ,dignified perfect. Its what these guys do.

R.I.P.
