Another UFO report

From the Courier online -

Fifer’s shock at strange lights in sky
By Cheryl Wood
AUCHTERMUCHTY COULD be the latest Fife town to boast a UFO sighting.

A young woman filmed objects zig-zagging for several hours across the night sky.

RAF Leuchars has ruled out its own jets and Chinook helicopters which were training in the area a few hours earlier.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, showed The Courier footage of lights—which change from white to blue to red—moving erratically across the sky.

At one point six of the lights can be seen at once close together.

What appears to be the dark, domed top of the objects can also be made out.

However, the quality of the film, taken using a hand-held camera, deteriorates when the woman attempted to zoom in on the mysterious shapes.

The sighting occurred between 1-5.30am last Tuesday.

The woman had been unable to sleep and spotted the lights when she looked out of her bedroom window.

She told The Courier, “It was quite frightening. They were all over the place.

“It was a really clear night and it was quite obvious what were stars and what weren’t.”

During the four and a half hours, at least one of the objects could be seen at all times and at points, she said, they appeared to be spinning.

A spokesman for RAF Leuchars said he knew of nothing unusual being picked up by air traffic control radar and added, “Helicopters would not have been flying at that time of the morning and neither were our jets.”

Fife Constabulary said it had received no calls reporting similar sightings.

A series of UFO sightings over the years have led to talk of Fife being part of the so-called Falkirk Triangle which includes the UFO hot spot Bonnybridge.

Files released this year by the Ministry of Defence showed that a spate of reports in Fife and Tayside led to a probe into the speculation.

Alien involvement was dismissed, but five separate reports filed within four days of each other in 1994 caused sufficient concern for an investigation.

The sightings include two small lights strobing and flashing four miles west of the Tay Road Bridge and a very slow moving light seen from near the Forgan roundabout.

The most remarkable UFO case reported in north-east Fife is that of a two families who claimed to have seen a landed object and hundreds of small beings in woods near Newton of Falkland in 1996.

Earlier this month, the MOD shut down its UFO reporting service, stating it was an inappropriate use of defence resources.
