My Take on Leuchars

Post by Bluetail » Sun Sep 12, 2010 4:06 pm

Well what can you say, another RAF era comes to a close with the passing of the Tornado F.3,
My thoughts on the show are pretty mixed, I thought the way the static aircraft were presented was absolutely appalling, barriers to close, aircraft just seemingly dumped anywhere, overlapping wingtips, pitot probes over the barriers to mention but a few, and don't even mention the Czech ground display, I have never seen such a tardy and badly presented static display in 40 years I,ve been going to airshows, as a RIAT volunteer if we presented anything like that standard we would be crucified. It was as if they didnt care or have any pride in what they were trying to do, the organisers should be ashamed of themselves. One other example of the very many was the 6 Sqn Typhoon, it should have been the static pride and joy, what did they park less than 6 feet from its tail...an ice cream van
Compare that to the flying display and wow what a difference, it was just brilliant, a mixture of gentle, noise and bang, the Hunter 4 Ship innagural airshow appearance, Sabre & Vampire, "Barrel" & Saab105, Spit & Hurricane combinations, and the Belgian F16 was just fantastic, and thats not saying the RAF contigent weren,t bad. the GR4 role demo is perfect for a crowd, loads of fast and noisy and bangs, with the Pyro,s just terrific, back that up with the Typhoon and Tucano, and then the Typhoon, Spit & F3 formation, add in a Vulcan and as I said above the flying was terrific. One final comment, who noticed the commentator being quiet when the aircraft was in front of you, and then talking when they were not take note other commentators take note, , just perfect Andy Pawsey, well done.

Some lovely shots. Is it good idea to get photos from outside the base for the airshow or is it better being inside?

These are some rather nice shots Jim, particularly the Vulcan and heat haze Typhoon. They're superb!
