Yeah there were a couple circuit bashing when i first got there. One looked like it was doing a asymmetric approach. Then later on there was several more take offs and landing. Rather annoying when you can hear them taking off / landing and you can't see them :(

Not sure which squadron or squadrons were night flying.

St Athan is not an RAF base. It is now known as MOD St Athan and has been fo a good while.

whilst searching the Defence estates website for local land, a while ago, i found some interesting snippets of info where the most likely bases would be come 2015 and 2020. Not sure whether that applies now, but so far it has proved to be right with regard to base closures. might be worth a look for anyone interested.

The Sentinel is a bit of a White Elephant, I'm really not surprised these are going. It's never been published, but after they fitted all the kit to the airframe, the range of the aircraft dropped considerably and I mean it dropped by a LOT!

It's not all it's cracked up to be

Yet they manage to hold an orbit for 6 or 7 hours at a time over Wallasey VOR - It can't be that different in theatre can it?

If you take into account the cost of moving the heavy maintainence facility for the GR4 away to Lossie(projected cost of £50 million!) I would say Marham is in the driving seat rather than Lossie. Also the fact that the Norwegians are also procuring the F35 and joint training initiatives are being proposed, this makes Lossie a better location for the F35 as transit times with any joint training are more "green". As for 7,00 people marching to say Lossie would be a better location, complete testicles! I can understand the concern over employment in Moray but eventually the F35 program will address this. (waiting to be corrected!) :halo:
