Phone Scam

Post by george » Fri Jan 07, 2022 11:24 am

Hi.

A new one for me yesterday. A call from the postcode lottery saying my postcode had been selected for a shopping discount card.
I thought that sounded interesting so let him rabbit on. He explained how it worked, the discount is paid directly into my bank so he needed my banking details. uuuum put the phone down. It immediately rang back but I ignored it. the number was 01985340783.

Exactly! If you have had a 'strange' phone call then just Google the phone number, you will usually find that loads of other people have reported that same number and you will find out more about it.

Google is a wonderful thing. :)

We had a strange, and rather unsettling, experience with a scam call a week or so before Christmas, and an example of scammers "spoofing" a phone number to show a local number on your caller display that isn't actually the number they're calling from.

My wife took the call, a recorded message from "Amazon" to say a big purchase had been made on an Amazon Prime account, which neither of us has.

But the weird thing was the number showing on our caller display was my late mother's number, which we gave up when we sold her house in 2012!
