Re: Newark Air Museum News 2023
Work has started on installing scaffolding around the nose of the Shackleton; this will allow the associated restoration work to start quite soon.

Confirmation that the scaffolding has now been removed from around the front fuselage of Shackleton WR977 & that we've come to the close of this particular restoration project for 2023!

This really needs to be bigger news, it's totally passed me by that ZH590 didn't make it to Newark and now the RAF have somehow managed to get their hands on an aircraft that never belonged to them in the first place!NAM Updater wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 12:15 pmAfter nearly four years we have news regarding Eurofighter DA4,ZH590 – however it’s not what we have worked long and hard for – a statement can be found in here!

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2023
Aside from when BAE Systems retired it and DA2, and flew both of them to RAF Coningsby where they were initially stored. DA2 was at Coningsby for a full year until dispatched to Hendon. DA4 was at Coningsby from 2006 till it went to the IWM later in 2009. They may have actually used them as GIAs before sending them to new homes. Anyway, never fear they will likely have plenty of Tranche 1s available in a couple of years.... Maybe....?POL wrote: ↑Mon Nov 27, 2023 1:06 pmThis really needs to be bigger news, it's totally passed me by that ZH590 didn't make it to Newark and now the RAF have somehow managed to get their hands on an aircraft that never belonged to them in the first place!NAM Updater wrote: ↑Thu Nov 02, 2023 12:15 pmAfter nearly four years we have news regarding Eurofighter DA4,ZH590 – however it’s not what we have worked long and hard for – a statement can be found in here!

Still a sad state of affairs for NAM however. But clearly the RAF and MoD have made a decision which may change someday. But not right now.
What exactly do you plan to do POL? Complain to the MoD, ring the media? Complain in Flypast.

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2023
As I have just posted on another forum: "This might be a first, but I feel unable to comment further."
Re: Newark Air Museum News 2023
To be honest this is a weird decision by the MoD, this aircraft has been promised to Newark for a few Years now and then just as it seems Newark are about to get it they take it away, no doubt Newark have been preparing a lot for it too. Doesn't seem right, as NAM Updater quite rightly says what else can you say really?

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2023
I have some difficult & disappointing news to share on behalf of the museum, regarding Canberra PR.7 WH791 this comes in the form of an unwanted first, after more than sixty years of operating as an air museum!

Re: Newark Air Museum News 2023
The museum and shop will both be closed today, Thursday 21st December 2023.
Unfortunately, we have taken the decision to close the museum site today due to the effects of Storm Pia - we have had various bits of major signage blown onto the site from a neighbouring property and conditions are too dangerous for us to be open - sorry if you are already travelling to visit us!
If you plan to visit the museum before Christmas; then we suggest that you check on here, our Twitter feed or call 01636 707170 to check that we are open before travelling.
These updates will be posted here to advise you of any changes to this situation and we are sorry for any inconvenience that this temporary situation may cause.
