Confirmed also that B2s have attacked an airfield in Libya.
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
BBC reporting Typhoons were in operation last night with "anti-tank missiles". I thought none had left CBY?

Deffo said RAF Typhoons...
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
TJ you and me know they may have it but 2018 is when they plan on being fully converted, when was the last time a CBY Tiffy took off with a Paveway or did any type of Air/Ground work ? 17 Sqn seemed to have chinned it off with the amount of hung up stores they kept on havingT_J wrote: You are correct, Adrian. RAF Typhoons do have an air-to-ground capability.

“HMS Westminster is off the coast of Libya and HMS Cumberland is in the region ready to support operations. Typhoon aircraft are also standing by to provide support.
Having read this comment by Liam Fox, I thought HMS Cumberland had returned home to Devonport at the beginning of last week. I did see it on Devonports movements for a 1400 arrival on Tuesday, I think it was. Can a Plymouth local or anyone else confirm whether it did arrive home?

BBC Says
"British Typhoon and Tornado jets will deploy soon to a military base in southern Italy as the UK centres its operations there, Dr Fox tells the Politics Show."

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Just because the typhoons don't leave CBY with paves hanging from them doesn't mean they don't carry out air/ground operations. I've been at Spadeadam many times when the typhoons from 11sqn have been doing ground attacks with forward air controllers talkin them onto targets. They might not be fully converted to air/ground ops just yet, but i'm sure they're still capableReptile 1 wrote:

Seen "Lame Fox" on BBC saying that both Tornados and Typhoons will deploy to Gioia de Colle later today.
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
I'd guess with glass cockpits and the like a lot of activities can be simulated to allow more realistic attack profiles - like when new Hawk T2 startss operations.PeteHemsley wrote:Just because the typhoons don't leave CBY with paves hanging from them doesn't mean they don't carry out air/ground operations. Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
I know they are capable but they will not engage in Air to Group Operation until they are fully adapted which we are looking at 2018 when they will be fully Operational so it will only go to patrol the Skies of Libya thats it. I know 11 Sqn did some FAC but like i asked 'or did any type of Air to Ground work' ? Its been a while.PeteHemsley wrote:Just because the typhoons don't leave CBY with paves hanging from them doesn't mean they don't carry out air/ground operations. Regarding the photographic D-Restriction, is there a specific channel through which one can be requested?

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Many thanks for that nwmonitor. Have had a good look through the website. So is it a case of just respecting those DA-Notices or is it worth emailing the DA-Notice secretary of someone else to let them know my intentions/ask for a permit?
Sorry to ask, but I'd rather be on the right side of the law. MOD staff have more important things to deal with at present than questioning me fence-side!

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
Have we got the harrier back?????,Sky's" Expert" in washington stated he expected to see harriers attacking ground forces???? or is he just another spurt
Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
If your on base get a permit first, if your at the fence, just use a bit of common sense on what you post, and possibly leave it a few hours or soalchemist2001 wrote:Many thanks for that nwmonitor. Didn't hear it, but I imagine it was Whiteman AFB in Missouri.

Re: 48 hours for Libyan Freedom ??
You know what the media are like for getting things mixed up? Liam Fox has announced that they are being deployed today. Sky News have just been running live images of them leaving RAF Coningsby this afternoon. You can see the munitions carried - standard air defence. Good use of the mound by the media!SteveS wrote:BBC reporting Typhoons were in operation last night with "anti-tank missiles". I thought none had left CBY?
