Evening all, can anyone tell me definitively if Canon EF-S lenses - specifically the 55-250 IS - are indeed compatible with the 20D? I Know Canon say they are and that should be proof enough but, the guy I had the camera from maintains EF-S lenses should not be used because the mirror can contact the back of the lens during use? If anyone can clear this up I'd be greatful, also does anyone have experience of the 55-250 IS lens and wether it is worth considering given my current microscopic budget for acquiring a lens!

Canon 20D EF-S lens compatibility?
Re: Canon 20D EF-S lens compatibility?
EF-S lenses will work on a 20d mate. They will work on all APS-C (1.6x) crop Canon bodies. The guy you had the camera from is getting confused with using an EF-S lens on a full frame I believe.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll check that out...

Re: Canon 20D EF-S lens compatibility?
As a professional photographer who owns an old 20D as a backup cam, I can confirm that as others have said, the EF-S lenses are entirely compatible with the 20D. The white square on the lens mount aligns with the white square on the camera body during mounting.

Thanks for all the replies fellas, I have in the end though ordered the Sigma 70-300 DG APO, I couldn't resist the extra reach of this lens over the Canon 55-250 IS, it also seems to be a well received lens so heres hoping!
