Does any body know a good place to watch from outside the air field? and if so good way to get there.

Depends how close you want to get.

In the past we've parked in the Premier Inn and gone into "The Monkey Puzzle" Pub north of the airfield. (101 Ively Road, GU14 0LE)
You'll probably get charged for parking, but hey it's safe, Have a couple of shandy's, then walk northwards a small way into Southwood Playing fields.
Put up your chair, barbecue on, enjoy the show, the aircraft come right over you.

The two most popular places if you're interested in taking photos (rather than just watching!) are by the Swan pub on the A325 Farnborough Road (at the end of runway 24). The other is Eelmoor Bridge just off the A323 Fleet Road which is at the end of runway 06. If it helps you decide, runway 24 is more commonly used for takeoff and landings and the planes fly right over your head when landing.

A little bit of local knowledge helps with parking in local roads near the Swan, although there are pay and display car parks in town about a 5-10 minute walk away. The only place to park near Eelmoor Bridge is a gravel parking area adjacent to 'Eelmoor driver training centre' about a 5 minute walk up the road. This is Army land but they don't seem to mind (I've been parking there for several years).

For what it's worth, I tend to watch from Eelmoor bridge as it overlooks the whole airfield. Hope this helps.

Hi guys, we will be attending on the saturday and arriving by train. Hoping to pitch up at the Swan pub and spend the day ther, can anyone confirm the beer garden here has good views?

I viewed in the road at the side of the pub last show, okay for photos and parking in side roads opposite the museum was no problem in the week.Not certain about fri-sun as restrictions on many of the roads would I think come in.The pub garden looked as though it gets well packed and is more under the flight path where as the road at the side is more off the centre line.Would think a good view of field from garden though but if you want landing shots could be head on.

I have read the AIP supplement and the display frequency is not on there. The tower and ground frequencies (and a few others) are though. It's a mandatory CAA requirement that the 'display frequency' at big airshows are guarded and discrete so that pilots, especially of high performance aircraft, can fly their display without distraction and/or interference. The fewer people that know about it, the easier it is to control that.

It's not up to me whether it gets posted anywhere, I don't care either way, but I know the CAA take a dim view.
