USS Theodore Roosevelt
Re: USS THEODORE ROOSEVLT
I read on CSG12 home page that it is the first deployment of the E-2D too.

Re: USS Theodore Roosevelt
Hi all, could anyone please confirm if the carrier is visible from Portsmouth Harbour area? Thinking of making the journey from Newcastle upon Tyne by train on Wed to see it. Cant find any stations closer than the above.
Many thanks in advance!

Stokes Bay, outside and just to the west of the harbour. It's a ferry across to Gosport and a fair old walk

Re: USS Theodore Roosevelt
Thanks Tim. So it would be a pointless exercise trying to see anything from Portsmouth then? Even at a diatance?

Re: USS Theodore Roosevelt
Hi
Portsmouth Harbour is 5 minutes walk from GunWharf quays (a shopping center on the harbour).
As mentioned elsewhere, from Gunwharf quays you can get an excursion boat around the carrier and in my experience you can read quite a few codes and some serials.
The Carrier will be in Stokes bay - I think there is a bus service from Gosport (foot ferry across the harbour from Portsmouth) to the Stubbington / Lee on Solent area.
Your best bet if you don't have a car is to use the boat trips from Gun Wharf quays - well worth the money.
(that is a what i call along day!)

Re: USS Theodore Roosevelt
Danny,
Another option:
We spotted from the car park with the Bayside Cabin café alongside. That's the one to the west end of Stokes Bay Road and 10 mins by car to the Gosport ferry terminal.
Whilst there I was talking to a chap who told me that you could take the X5 bus service into Gosport and the foot ferry terminal from the bus stop just east of the roundabout north of said car park (4 mins walk) All codes (apart from 204 doh!) can be read from the car park - if you can see the aircraft!
All locations can be recognised from GE.
Freeman.

Missed 210 on the list posted. This makes 45 F 18's. 4 E2-D's. 4 H 60's on deck. (Monday)

For anyone using PlanePlotter and in the southern half of the UK it might be an interesting exercise to try and pick up the Mode A pulses from her radar.
Radar head rotation rate is I think 12rpm .
