Wow its wonderful to see these, really appreciate it, particularly 4 ship. Multi tailbands at top are open day 2nd August 1975, i think.I was stuck down the New Forest on holiday, only 10 at time so couldn't do anything about it. Remember them climbing out over Littleport needed a longer climb out than the F15s. Best shots i've seen to date of the Lakenheath Phantoms, thanks again.

Very nice - I remember when they were initially delivered to the 48th in Jan'72. Arrivals from the US staged via Torrejon, as did the F-100's they were replacing going the other way. Due to the demands of the Vietnam war delivery rate was very slow with only the 492nd TFS operational for many months as I recall. Before the `LN` tail code was assigned they flew with the letters `LK`

- great times.

Magnificent.

492nd and 493rd shared 26 aircraft until August 1974.

Top quality scans of one of my all time favourite aircraft. Interesting to note that 65-721 is without brown in the camoflage as I don't remember seeing any like that at the time.

Excellent stuff Fred, I note you've caught the experimental "3 greens" '721 - very rare. Greta stuff! :thumb:

FredM wrote:Thanks for all your kind comments guys . As a matter of interest there were a few more of Lakenheaths F-4Ds in the three-green camo scheme , another can be seen in the shot of the four-ship . I also have a few slides of 81TFW F-4Ds in the same scheme and even a couple with the three-tone green and tan ! Watch this space .Thanks again , Fred Martin .
Thanks for that Fred, I thought it was a one off as I only saw the one 'frame. Great stuff..
