Is it, it says the current date and time on the bottom left hand corner of the map??
Far left of the screen where it says 'Latest AIS' then at the bottom of that it says 'Received: 00:46:38 09 Jan 14 GMT'

Last positional data was at 0848z 18/10/16 just off the coast near Floro, Norway

The Russian Navy has now dropped the exercise and are continuing south and are now just east of the Shetlands

Suggestion on BBC that the ships could pass to the West of Ireland rather than through the English Channel

Are there any international waters available in the English channel or are you always in either French or British waters?

You can simply work it out slogen51, in the Dover/Calais area the French/British waters overlap.

As you head west, and the Channel opens out, there comes a time when they no longer overlap and hence become international.

A Russian Bear, or ship, can happily fly/sail from the west up to about Bournemouth before turning 180 and retreating - all part of the QRA cycle.

Thanks

Wasn't sure if special rules applied to channels - so you can't just pass through the Dover straits without permission from somewhere? As you can tell I know nothing about Marine navigation.

Royal Navy have already publicly stated that they will be escorted by two of our ships should the task force choose to take the Channel routing.
Cheers

Didn't you mean to type 'Our 2 Ships' :P In jest of course we do have a few more

I take it they won't be able to perform any air operations till Well clear of all of the European coastal countries airspace ? ie they can't proceed to wind up the QRA responses by constant launch & recovery operations.

In the current climate it seems they can do what they like in international waters.

I not sure escorting is the right word - more like shadowing.

Be nice to be on a cross channel ferry as the carrier passed close by!

Just seen the BBC footage of the carrier going through the Straits of Dover and there is smoke coming out the funnels, I thought this was a Nuclear powered vessel?

The Kuznetsov is not nuclear powered.

Sky News also showing footage, most probably the same. Sky web page also has a short clip from Norway and also a picture from an oil rig showing Norwegian and Spanish warships shadowing 2 of the other vessels.
