My heartfelt sympathies for his family friends and collegues. Truly the worse news in a long time - we will have to wait for the official verdict, but if Flt Lt Egging has indeed gone above and beyond in his determination to ensure his jet came down in a non populated area then he is a hero.

May you rest in peace and soar high with your wings as an angel!!

Rest in peace,

Steve

Well said Mike, at this time our thoughts should be with the family and friends of Flight Lieutenant Jon Egging. Not arguing amongst ourselves.

the family will have known before us, not being funny here but it doesn't matter who posts what tribute.
Next of kin and all those others will have been informed too, the 24/7 news is way too fast for us and others to play catch up, which is all we ever do and others sub posted 'rumours' from other sites on here too.
I have done it this way, anyone could have posted before and after, pretty much sure it will be the same on the news channels, even the Mods were one of the first to confirm on here!

Thoughts with friends, families, the whole of the reds team and the RAF. RIP Red 4 Flt Lt John Egging. The policeman giving the statement was on the verge of crying, I think this is a shock to everyone. :( Also if reports are true that he piloted the aircraft away from a built up area, then he is a much bigger man than I could ever be and a true hero to say the least. :( :( :(

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

I've raised a glass to Red 4, "Prost!"

i have had a couple of PM's .
First off, my condolences to all involved, both family, friends, work colleagues, enthusiasts :(

My post was in confirmation of the facts that were known sources are not important. Some of those facts were known before others and some after what people call the 'official' announcements.
Even the DM aren't that stupid to post a 'death message' before the families have been told!

I posted a small 'tribute' before anyone else, doesn't make me any more better than anyone else on here, all the news agencies have cut & pasted from the RA 's own site about Red 4, in the same way.

No doubt the FB page will soon be up and running, i find that more disturbing these days, but for total strangers it is a coping mechanism, same as flowers at death scenes!.

I've done death messages to next of kin, and sad to say it has not become the norm, but routine for me, that doesn't mean that i don't feel for those left behind either but it has a knock on effect to those who have to deliver such news as well as those receiving it. I've had to take over phone conversations from mums & dads to sons and daughters in the middle of the night half way round the world!, hence i could see the way the 'timeline ' was going on any official announcement!.

There will always be 'gory' speculation and rumours flowing across the web, it's what we do on here, no matter what the subject is, or perhaps it's just called a discussion forum!.

I revert back to my 1st line at the top of this post and a shame that the Reds season has more than likely come to a tragic and premature end in 2011.
Equally if anything i've said was out of order then appologies, it was short and to the point, bit like the police statement you got earlier.

I'm kinda just waiting for the NIMBY's to call for their disbanding on groundless Safety grounds and costs...
