Jersey International Air Display 2023

Post by Gary » Mon Jul 31, 2023 9:09 pm

Potential bad news coming out about Jersey, one of the shows I’ve always wanted to do but never got around to it
Save it, or lose it…
31st July 2023 Jonathan Vibert JIAD2023, JIAD23
This year’s Jersey International Air Display still hangs in the balance, following the organiser’s appeal on Friday. The appeal came for companies and individuals who can afford to donate or sponsor £5,000 or more towards the £75,000 that is still required to ensure that the event, which is due to take place on Thursday 14th September, can go ahead.

The organiser has stated that they have received a number of pledges for £5,000 from individuals to their appeal but much more is still required to ensure that the event can take place this year and have renewed their call for companies and individual who can afford £5,000 or more to come forward to put on the air display.

They are especially appealing to those companies who benefit from the air display or use it to host various corporate hospitality events on the day for their clients and/or employees to come forward to help fund it. They have also stated that they are also following up on some of the enquiries they have received regarding the display and are prepared to extend the go-or-no go decision on the event until close of business on Friday 4 August 2023 rather than the end of today as originally intended.

The organisers of the Jersey International Air Display are delighted to announce that the 2023 air display will be going ahead as originally planned on Thursday 14th September 2023, subject to of course to the Bailiff’s Panels consent.

The event which was on the verge of cancellation due to a severe financial shortfall for reasons beyond its control was saved following a last-minute 7-day public appeal to those companies or individuals in the Island who could afford to donate/sponsor £5,000 or more to the air display.

Although it did not achieve its £75,000 target, ten companies and individuals came forward with £5,000 each and the Economic Development Department increased their grant to the display by giving an additional £20,000. This means that the 2023 event is secured.

Mike Higgins, the air display organizer stated that “we are extremely grateful to the companies and individuals, who have come forward to support us and ensure that the Island did not lose one of its most popular events. They have also ensured that we have not lost another visitor attraction and its important contribution to the Island economy. Without their support it would not be happening.”

“At this point in time we cannot name all those who have pledged money but we will do so once we have received their consent to do so as we want to publicly thank each and every one of them. We and the Island owe them and our other sponsors an important debt of gratitude.”

Mike Higgins also stated “that he was also extremely grateful for the support of the Island’s former Chief Minister, John Le Fondre, who worked tireless to help us raise this money.”

I'm thinking of doing this one. has anyone ever flown in on the day from Gatwick, and out again at the end of the day? How easy is transport form the airport to the display, how busy is it etc etc?

It is possible with the early and evening flights - I've done the same in the past. There is a good bus service from the Airport to St Helier.

If possible book the latest possible flight back to LGW as the traffic immediately after the display can be a bit sticky and the buses cannot escape that.

Thanks, that's helpful. The participants list is looking a bit thin at the moment for it be worthwhile for me. I thought they had a lot of international displays we don't see much here, I wonder if more will be announced.
