Two Chinooks landed at Leconfield this morning aprox 1010 and departed aprox 1030 heading in a westerly direction which would be towards the York area. They also did the same yesterday, but I never saw where they departed too.

Over the last 2 weeks they have been landing regularly at Impahl Barracks in York. The were here today briefly. I can see them from my office window. They land (usually with ramp down) stay for about 10 mins and then depart. They were doing this last Saturday (7/5) as well. There is a lot of speculation in the local press that the barracks will close this year and I'm wondering whether they are already starting to move equipment/files/ etc. On the other hand I was speaking to a former group captain (or some other high ranking officer) based there who said that it is unlikely to close because too many top brass favoured being there than further north. Only hearsay though.
