Aerial tour of west country bases....

Post by Mictheslik » Tue Sep 04, 2012 6:00 pm

Spent the weekend at the LAA Rally at Sywell (pictures to come on CA) To get there and back we flew over or near the local bases (well 2 bases and an ex-base).

Fairford on Friday evening:

And up close and personal with Fairford on the way back....many thanks to the Brize radar controller who routed us through the overhead at 800ft :D (only just resisted the temptation to make a low pass down the runway!)

I'll take your word for it, it just looks different, (can't see the taxiways). Unless it's a trick of the light, weather, camera angle etc.

First one is 100% Fairford. Can see the base hangars, taxi-ways, B2 blister hangar, hardstands, tower.... not to mention Rhymes Barn, the reservoirs on the north side etc. Pretty easy to pick all the features out.
North side taxi-way can clearly be seen, starting further up the runway as it does....

Love the third shot, nice and clear and a very unique view of Fairford!
