Re: NOTAM 21/10/16
There is currently a GPM underway,with QUID443flt and MIGHTY11flt x3 B52H ,
I think Fairford is being used as prim diversion base again (same as Tuesdays mission)
I could be wrong but this seems likely .
All the best

08:26L slight correction,turns out it's 2x B-1B
B-1Bs using B-52 callsign whatever next.....

Re: NOTAM 21/10/16
The fact Fairford appears to have been put on standby again suggests there are B-52s as well as B-1s. The B-1s could divert into several UK bases if their tanking failed, the B-52s only really one.

Re: NOTAM 21/10/16
Or it makes sense to have the base right under their refueling track on standby in case they need to drop the from sky!
Re: NOTAM 21/10/16
Went passed the Base on the motorbike this after-noon, zzzzzzzzzzzz

Re: NOTAM 21/10/16

they'll be swapping boxes next that`ll confuse the comrades
Re: NOTAM 21/10/16
It's not a B-52 call sign Max, it's AFGSC. B-2A's use it as well.

Re: NOTAM 21/10/16
The B-1's, B-2's and B-52's are all assigned to 8TH Air Force units. Known from its WW2 operations as the "Mighty Eighth" that's possibly why they use that call sign?

'Right on the nose' as ever I suspect Graham.graham luxton wrote:The B-1's, B-2's and B-52's are all assigned to 8TH Air Force units. Known from its WW2 operations as the "Mighty Eighth" that's possibly why they use that call sign?
Re: NOTAM 21/10/16
You could well be correct Graham, the US monitors probably never though of that either.

MRTT, it was just a ride past on a lovely day and around the Cotswold's

Re: NOTAM 21/10/16
Ah ok, my apologies! Can't beat the Cotswolds on a sunny day!
