Nimrods and Tornado F3's go together

Post by Sheff » Mon Nov 02, 2009 1:10 pm

Seems that the OSD for Nimrod MR2 has now been set for end of March 2011 - same time at 111 Squadron's Tornado F3's. Going to be a very sad day :(

I wouldn't put money on the F3s lasting beyond March 31 2010.

Old news on the MR2, first MRA4 to Kinloss is imminent...
You want the Aladeen news, or the Aladeen news?

First MRA4 is due to Kinloss in the first few months of 2010.

Rumour has it that this is likely to slip as the MRA.4 is currently unable to fulfil the full ISTAR role carried out at present by the MR.2, and not yet taken up by other assets (Sentinel, Shadow, Reaper) in theatre.

BTW please don't shoot the messenger, I'm sure Sheff is just passing on what he has gathered from reliable sources as have I.

Sounds like the Diamond TwinStars will be heading back to Kandahar then...

I'd say that's a strong possibility, and now the un-manned development of the Twin Star is in the late stages of testing in Israel - I wonder if that's the eventual aim with the British ones?

There was talk back along that the British were interested in unmanned twinstars...

Indeed, the F3 OSD date might shift again if Flight's recent comments have any truth behind them.

So much will depend on the dying moments of the present government and how much they continue to tighten the purse strings beyond the point of common sense.

And if the government which it would appear is going to follow them is even more ruthless with regards to defence as seems likely.
